Phra Somdej Song Kaiser

For every Somdej collectors ,there is one piece they won't miss and that is Somdej Kaiser. The history of Somdej Kaiser is very little or mostly in Thai words (which i don't understand). but as far as i can find these are so far what i know.

Phra Somdej Song Kaiser was made in BE 2413. There are only 300 pieces been made and all are presented to King Rama V. Its a very rare piece that very few people see real one and mostly i see is Somdej Kaiser BE 2529 from Wat Arun which also an collectors item.

The ingredient for making Phra Somdej Song Kaiser are:

  1. Somdej powder
  2. cooked rice
  3. banana
  4. 108 kinds of pollen
  5. nicker nut
  6. crown flower
  7. betel pepper leaf
  8. candle wick
  9. 7 salt tick
  10. 7 forest soil
  11. sema lichen
  12. pink cassia leaf
  13. Tanowsri sachet powder
  14. water leak form a rock in the cave
  15. Tan leaf powder
  16. shell powder
  17. boil sugarcane water
  18. tung oil for coating

They were mixed and press into the mold. Each piece is about 3.7 cm wide, 5.8 cm tall and 5 mm thick. Each Piece is welled molded with 5 lotus at the base ( to implicated King Rama V). Before it was call "Phra Somdej Pim Song Kaiser", it was called "Phra Somdej Pim Piset". Somdej Toh spent 3 months to consecrate them and offer all to King Rama V before he travel to aboard in 1870.

According to history, During King Rama V visited Germany, after greeting Kaiser William I of Germany, Kaiser William I notice red, green and yellow lights around King Rama V shirt pocket and ask The King what he had in his pocket. King Rama V then show him the amulet and said that this amulet used to protect him from any dangers and harm.

Kaiser William I was interested and started to have faith in the Buddha image. King Rama V then offered the amulet as a souvenir of his trip to Germany (that left with 299 :p). He also name the amulet in honor of Kaiser William I by combined the original name together and called it " Phra Somdej Song Kaiser". From then on general public flock to Wat Rakang trying to obtain Phra Somdej Song Kaiser but they were no longer available.

From then on, the Buddha image with pointed face, garuda chest round head and five lotuses at the base implying to King Rama V. Everyone then called "Phra Somdej Pim Song Kaiser" until today.
